James Mason is one of the most underrated artists to emerge in the 70's fusion scene.His one and only album Rhythm of Life is an astonishing masterpiece blending jazz funk with brazilian orchestration and massive keybord work.Once a member of Roy Ayers this great keybordist could have managed something better.His only other release is the 12'' I want your Love backed by Nightgruv.Both are a step further from the soundof his album,more electronic oriented and less organic.Both are considered classics for the house movement and especially Nightguv sounds like an early house record.The next piece comes from the sleeve of i want your love.

''Although these recordings were never meant to be released, i hope you will enjoy them. If you have enjoyed my work in the past, i believe, perhaps, you will. These recordings were made for record industry decision makers to judge the worthiness of my efforts versus their risk in financing another album recorded by me. I had always thought that, if my effort was found worthy, these recordings would be redone. Except for this release by Mighty Fine Records, for which i am grateful, neither of these dreams have come true, and, therefore, this labour of love is being forwarded to you as is. Since the breakup of Talking Heads, David Byrne's solo work has been notoriously inconsistent. But before that band's dissolution, he made a couple of very fine albums on his own: My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (with Brian Eno) and The Catherine Wheel, a musical score commissioned by Twyla Tharp to accompany her dance project of the same name.
Byrne's score is always interesting and frequently brilliant;
it draws on the instrumental talents of such session greats as drummer Yogi Horton,percussionist John Chernoff, guitarist Adrian Belew
(who had been recording and touring as a sideman with Talking Heads), and, inevitably, Eno. Horton's drumming establishes a muscular funk foundation for much of the material, which also showcases Byrne's underrated guitar playing.
Highly recommended.

Led Zeppelin meets Moroder

David Gilmour Girls started out as a project of Dutchmen Robin van der Kaa and Jasper Uhl while playing together in the rockband Oil, with whom they'd spent several years recording and touring Europe and the United States. It became their primary focus after Oil disbanded in 2004, at the same time also expanding from a studio outfit to playing live.

Drawing from such a diverse musical background created a sound that's hard to pin down - using partly seventies psychedelic rock, partly new wave, partly raw disco, using live instruments just as much as electronica, but never losing sight of the dancefloor. It has been described as 'an ever-evolving wall of sound to lose yourself in. It's drugged up & tranced out.

Robin Guthrie was the mastemind behind Cocteau Twins.He is like a hero to me as he has produced some of my favourite music ever,from Felt's masterpiece Ignite the Seven Cannons to AR Kane's Lolita to Lush's Spooky and Chapterhouse's Whirlpool.His solo work is amazing as well.This is Day Star.Great guitar job.More piece of his work is gonna come in upcoming posts.

The Nighttime Swerve is a weekly late night radio show mixed by live DJs. It airs on Wednesday nights from 11pm - 1am on WPVM, 103.5 fm.

John Carpenter was more than a director.His music was as good and intense as his film's.Christine was one of my favourite movies as a kid.Not much of a kid movie but addictive.Again like a few more times in Carpenter's work a left out kid takes his revenge.The red Plumouth is just the instrument.Arnie Cunningham is the orchestrator.

Some years ago,when vcr was the only form of home entertaiment i used to record movies from tv.On a really hot night like today i bumped into this film by Eric Rhomer called La Collectionneuse .At the time i was already familiar with two more movies of his Ma nuit chez Maud and Le Genou de Claire.Both of them were part of Rhomer's ''Six Moral Tales'', a series of individual movies about morality in love.La Colectionneuse was the first full length movie of the series.Its a simple story(Rhomer's plots resemble simple relationship studies) about a young man (Adrien) who retires to a friend's mansion at the French Riviera to seek solitude while his girlfriend is in London.Accompanied by a friend they head for the mansion only to find that it is occupied by a girl.Adrian finds his plans ruined by the presence and the bohemain lifestyle of the girl.Adrein gets hostile with her accusing her of trying to make a collection of men.Later he finds out that he is part of that collection.In the prologue of the film Haydee Politoff who plays the Haydie is walking across a beach wearing a blue bikini.This scene sets the mood for the whole film.What Rhomer is doing here is worship the tanned body of a girl.What he does later is showing all the trouble it causes.Still everybody wants some trouble like that.Anyway enough said.On a summer night like this ,a movie like that could make a difference.I still have the tape but i don't have a vcr anymore..Nevermind i ve already watched it about 3 or 4 times.Now it's your turn.There is a great re issue on The Criterion Collection.Check it out.The soundtrack of the film was provided by Uk Psych outfit The Blossom Toes.
