splash

Amazing laidback soul balearic action from top British duo Total Contrast that produced some great stuff during the mid 80's.

slow me down

This is one of my favourite balearic house tracks ever if there was ever a genre called like that.I was getting a penny for every time i use the word balearic lately i could afford free holidays for the whole of summer..Anyway this is a truly classic track pitched down at -6 as i always thought it was a bit too fast. This is the ''Chosen Few'' with ''Positivity''.The picture was taken last year in an island i'm going to visit quite soon spending my ''balearic money''.

tuesday session

This Tuesday i'm gonna be selecting and mixing some music at Higgs Bar at Kotzia Square alongside Bad Spencer from Yes it Does Sure It Does. Not a party but rather a laidback midweek music night with cool laidback music.Join us.

serious love affair

I've been away for a while but it's only because i'm trying to deliver the bulk of my work before my deadlines expire. That means a lot of work and not a lot of free time for music.Luckilly i'll be heading off to the islands after the 24th of July and enjoy the thrills of the sea listening to tunes like this one. When music feels so laidback, the wind smoothly caresses your skin while the sun is diving into the sea and beside you lays the one you love then there world is a perfect place.

Elizabeth Fraser's voice swoops and pants and soars
and sighs high above the music.

mellotron running time 11:12

It seemed like a good idea at the time,
but the technological revolution of the 80's
was not kind to rock. With the gap between
elevator music and Top Ten single bridged
by the ubiquitous Yamaha DX7 synthesizer
a generation of drummers was been replaced
by machines.The result?Really crappy drums.

A turning point of sorts came in 1986-surely
the worst year for music ever-when Talk Talk
one of the main culprits of this synth-drenched rock
became the first to reject it.

''The Colour Of Spring'' was a revolution.Holli's sons
were finally wrapped in instrumentation sympathetic
to their fragile melancholy.

stallions

It's one of those times where i get over excited about a new project and i love being involved in spreading the word about something that is so dope. When someone like Lovefingers joins forces with restless partner Lee Douglas on a new project alongside British neo folk troubadour wonder Findlay Brown, well that calls for a front page coverage in the news section.Findlay Brown rocked the world about two years ago with his amazing Losing the Will To Survive single. As part of his new remixed EP Findlay Brown's new single Teardrops Lost In The Rain got some extra treatment the Stallions and will get an official release on This Is Music Ltd.What's more exciting though is the new collaboration between the Stallions and Mr Findlay Brown called simply ''The Stallions Suite''.This will get a proper 12'' version release alongside a new remix from another track from Findlay's new album and a jockey friendly version of the Suite to come with it.The track is a Morriccone meets Moroder spaghetti western influenced jam with lush orchestration that's galloping into an epic 11 minute spaced disco monster. It's something you should hear yourselves so grab a preview here on the Stallions home page along with more details for the forthcoming releases.Ride with the Stallions!

pressure time

This sounds like The Clash jamming with the Woodentops and Mano Negra somewhere in the Algerian desert.Top French ''ethnic'' styled funk that went big in the balearic scene.

you think you really know me

Gary Wilson’s life is a dream come true:
a kid records a genius noise collage/bedroom soul record
in his parent’s basement, college radio picks up the single,
he tours on it but doesn’t break through and 20 years later,
Beck namedrops Gary in “Where It’s At” and his record gets
re-released. Gary, now in his 50’s, speaks with Kevin Ferguson
about finally finding an audience and recording a new record
for Human Ear Music (tentatively titled “Lisa Wants to Talk to You”).
Dreams are weird.

NEW OLD MUSIC

This must have sounded very new back in the day,(1981)
with its deep, bassy, stripped down club sound,
and its cool 'undervibe' providing a distinctly 'chilled out' feel.

ecuador

Turning a useless record over and discovering a hidden gem revealed on the B side is quite a thrilling experience. This track is the B side to a record that is almost shameful to give away it's name.Let's just say it's a silly 80's Italo hit by Gary Low.The B side luckily enough is a balearic gem with some great guitar work that could have been easily produced by someone like Wally Badarou. The perfect soundtrack to summer nights.
